The FIBC bulk bag ePTFE vent patch for powder filling dust control and moisture barrier is a high-efficiency filtration and pressure equalization component designed for the demanding environment of flexible intermediate bulk containers used in powder and granular material handling. This vent is a large-area, die-cut patch of high-airflow ePTFE waterproof breathable membrane, bonded to a durable, UV-stabilized PP or PE nonwoven backing, with a perimeter heat-seal zone for direct welding into the wall or top spout of the FIBC bag. During the high-speed pneumatic or gravity filling of the bulk bag with powders—such as cement, fly ash, carbon black, plastic resin pellets, flour, or pharmaceutical excipients—the vent allows the displaced, dust-laden air to rapidly escape while capturing and retaining the fine particulate matter within the bag. This prevents the release of hazardous or nuisance dust into the workplace, protecting operator health and preventing combustible dust accumulations. After filling, the vent provides a hydrophobic moisture barrier, preventing atmospheric humidity from entering the bag and causing the powder to cake, hydrate, or degrade during outdoor storage and transport.
FIBC bulk bags, typically holding 500 to 2000 kg of powder, are filled at high rates from silos, mixers, or pneumatic conveyors. The filling process displaces a huge volume of air in seconds. This air, heavily laden with fine dust particles, must be vented from the bag. If the bag has only a simple open vent, the dust cloud escapes, creating a respiratory hazard for operators, a combustible dust explosion risk, and a significant product loss. If the bag is not vented at all, the pressure will burst the bag or prevent complete filling. After filling, the bag is often stored outdoors or in unheated warehouses. Humidity entering through the vent can cause the powder to absorb moisture, leading to caking, microbial growth, or chemical reaction. The vent must be a high-airflow dust filter during filling and a moisture barrier during storage.
The FIBC ePTFE vent patch is the complete solution. The ePTFE membrane, with its billions of microscopic pores, provides exceptionally high airflow with very low pressure drop. During filling, the dust-laden air passes through the membrane. The dust particles are captured on the membrane surface, forming a filter cake that is periodically dislodged by the flexing of the bag. Clean air exits to the workplace. The membrane's hydrophobic property prevents liquid water and humid air from entering the bag during storage, protecting the powder from moisture. The vent's PP or PE nonwoven backing provides mechanical strength and a reliable heat-seal surface for welding into the PP or PE fabric of the FIBC bag.

The vent patch is heat-sealed into the wall or top spout of the FIBC bag during manufacturing. During filling, the displaced air flows through the ePTFE membrane. The fine powder particles are captured on the membrane surface and retained inside the bag. The cleaned air exits to the atmosphere. After filling, the bag is sealed. During outdoor storage, the hydrophobic membrane prevents rain and humid air from entering, protecting the powder from moisture. The vent continues to equalize pressure as ambient temperature changes.
