Product Description
This customizable PFAS-free waterproof breathable membrane film is specially formulated for outdoor lighting fixtures such as street lamps, floodlights, and architectural luminaires. It prevents internal condensation that causes lens fogging and LED degradation, all without using fluorinated materials. The film can be tailored in width, length, and thickness, and offered with or without adhesive backing. It withstands long-term UV exposure, temperature extremes, and rain, ensuring clear optics and reliable operation. The PFAS-free composition meets environmental standards for public infrastructure projects.
Outdoor lighting enclosures repeatedly heat up when on and cool rapidly after switching off. Without proper venting, the negative pressure draws moist air past seals, causing persistent internal fog. Traditional vent patches use ePTFE membranes that contribute to PFAS pollution. Municipalities and green building certifications increasingly mandate PFAS-free components. A high-breathability, environmentally compliant film is needed to keep luminaires dry without regulatory compromise.
The membrane is constructed from a PFAS-free polyolefin matrix with a dense network of micropores. It enables continuous air exchange that carries water vapor out before condensation can occur. The film’s white or black coloring can be customized to blend with housing designs. It resists yellowing under UV and maintains flexibility in freezing temperatures. Die-cut vent patches with 3M™ adhesive simplify integration during luminaire assembly, reducing labor and warranty claims.

Used in LED street light housings, parking lot area lights, architectural wall washers, landscape spotlights, and high-bay industrial luminaires. The membrane can be applied directly over vent openings in metal castings or polycarbonate lenses, replacing integrated breather plugs.
When the lamp is on and heating, internal pressure rises, forcing moist air out through the membrane. When off and cooling, external air is drawn back in, but water drops are blocked. Because the membrane’s pores are smaller than the shortest wavelength of visible light, it does not affect optical clarity if placed behind lenses. The continuous breathing maintains a dew point below housing temperature, eliminating fog.
Select the membrane airflow rating based on the fixture’s wattage and internal volume. High-wattage fixtures need higher airflow. Choose adhesive that bonds to your housing substrate – powder-coated aluminum, glass, or polycarbonate. We recommend a vent patch area of at least 80 mm² for every 10 watts of LED load. Provide your housing drawing, and our engineers will specify the optimal patch layout.
