Product Overview

The nylon plastic waterproof breathable screw-in vent plug is a lightweight, corrosion-free pressure equalization device. Its M16 threaded body and integrated ePTFE membrane offer reliable moisture and dust protection for plastic and composite enclosures. It reduces condensation in outdoor telecom boxes, junction boxes, and solar inverter housings. The UV-stabilized nylon material resists weathering and chemical degradation, making it an economical solution for high-volume production.

Cause

Outdoor electronic enclosures undergo intense solar heating during the day and rapid cooling at night. This daily thermal cycle creates a pumping effect that draws in humid ambient air and dust. Sealed enclosures without venting will accumulate condensation, leading to PCB corrosion and electrical shorts. Gasket-sealed covers can also be compromised by the sustained negative pressure, pulling water past o-rings.

Solution

Screw in this M16 nylon vent plug into a standard knockout or threaded boss. The ePTFE membrane allows the enclosure to breathe, equalizing pressure continuously. Water molecules cannot enter, but water vapor can exit, dramatically reducing internal relative humidity. The nylon body blends with the enclosure material, eliminating galvanic corrosion and offering a cost-effective alternative to metal vents.

How It Works

As the enclosure heats up in sunlight, air expands and exits through the membrane. When it cools, outside air re-enters through the same microporous barrier. The vapor-permeable membrane prevents a vacuum from forming and stops water droplets at the surface. The integrated o-ring on the vent body ensures a secondary static seal against the enclosure wall.

How To Choose

Select based on the enclosure wall thickness and thread engagement. Nylon vents are ideal when weight and cost are primary considerations. Ensure the maximum operating temperature does not exceed 120°C; for hotter environments, consider metal alternatives. If the application involves high chemical exposure, verify chemical compatibility with PA66.
