Product Description
The D15 HDPE protective vent is a rugged, chemically hardened breathing device for disinfectant and industrial chemical jugs. It combines a heavy-duty HDPE body with an ePTFE membrane that is inherently resistant to oxidizing agents, acids, and alkalis. This vent is specifically tailored for aggressive liquids such as sodium hypochlorite (bleach), hydrogen peroxide, quaternary ammonium disinfectants, and acid-based cleaners. Its 15mm weld-in design provides a permanent, shield-like barrier against leaks and pressure buildup, while the membrane allows safe, filtered ventilation. The protective design also helps prevent accidental membrane damage during handling or capping, making it the safest choice for corrosive and reactive chemical packaging.
Disinfectants and industrial chemicals are some of the most challenging products to package. Sodium hypochlorite solutions off-gas oxygen, especially when exposed to heat or metal contaminants, causing jugs to swell dangerously. Peroxides readily decompose, releasing large volumes of oxygen. Many acid-based cleaners emit corrosive vapors. If a standard vent is used, the aggressive chemicals can corrode the housing or degrade a non-specialized membrane. Furthermore, disinfectant jugs are frequently used in consumer and janitorial settings where a bulging or collapsed jug is considered defective and can lead to returns or safety complaints.
This protective vent features an ePTFE membrane that is completely inert to oxidative and corrosive chemicals. It does not degrade, swell, or lose its hydrophobic/oleophobic properties over time. The vent is designed to handle continuous gas generation. As oxygen or other gases evolve inside the jug, they pass through the ePTFE membrane’s open pore structure directly to the atmosphere. The membrane’s extreme chemical inertness means it does not react with strong oxidizers or chlorinated vapors. The protective collar creates an air gap that prevents liquid from sitting statically on the membrane surface, encouraging any splashed liquid to drain back into the jug. This maintains maximum effective breathable surface area and prevents salt or crystal buildup.
