The D15 HDPE pressure equalization vent is purpose-built to manage dynamic pressure swings in liquid fertilizer and herbicide jugs during transport and storage. Featuring a chemically inert ePTFE membrane housed in an impact-resistant HDPE body, it installs easily into a 15mm hole and provides reliable, maintenance-free breathing. This vent eliminates sidewall paneling, bottom popping, and dangerous spillage caused by over-pressurization, ensuring your jugs maintain their shape and integrity from the filling line to the end user. Its advanced design is particularly effective for high-concentration suspension concentrates and solution fertilizers that generate significant vapor pressure.

Cause

Liquid fertilizers and herbicides packaged in HDPE jugs are subject to extreme pressure variations. Filled in cool conditions and shipped to hot regions, the liquids expand, compressing the air headspace and raising internal pressure dramatically. This often causes jugs to bulge or burst through the handle area, a primary failure point. After discharge, the remaining liquid cools, creating a vacuum that collapses the jug. Adding to the challenge, many liquid fertilizers generate ammonia or carbon dioxide, continuously building pressure. Unvented closures simply cannot cope, while unprotected vents lead to messy drips and chemical exposure.

Solution

The D15 HDPE vent acts as a reliable pressure relief and vacuum break mechanism. When internal pressure exceeds the set threshold, air escapes through the ePTFE membrane without releasing liquid. When a vacuum forms, ambient air enters to equalize. Because the vent housing is HDPE, it welds perfectly to standard HDPE jug caps, forming a monolithic seal. The membrane’s oleophobic treatment ensures that sticky fertilizer residues do not block the pores, guaranteeing long-term functionality in the field.
