The vent combines a heavy-duty EPTFE membrane with a 304 stainless steel mesh backing, creating a composite that withstands both high-velocity water jets (IP69K compatible) and physical abuse. It handles speaker sound pressure levels exceeding 120 dB without mechanical fatigue, ensuring the device’s beeps, alerts, and voice guidance remain intelligible even in noisy environments. The stainless steel mesh provides puncture resistance against sharp tools and fork tines, while the EPTFE layer guarantees water and dust tightness. The assembly is rated for operation from sub-zero freezer temperatures to foundry-floor heat, making it a truly all-environment solution.

Solution

Rugged terminals are often cleaned with pressure washers and disinfectants at the end of a shift. Standard speaker protection fails quickly under these conditions: foam absorbs water and freezes, mesh rusts, and both allow water ingress that corrodes the speaker. This EPTFE-and-steel composite creates a lasting waterproof seal that also acts as a physical armor. How It Works

Sound from the internal speaker passes through the composite layers. The EPTFE seals against water and fine dust, while the steel mesh takes the brunt of physical impact and prevents sharp objects from penetrating. High-pressure water jets spray against the steel surface; any mist that passes the mesh is instantly stopped by the hydrophobic EPTFE. The large open area of the steel mesh ensures it does not add significant acoustic resistance, so the EPTFE alone determines the acoustic tuning. A: Yes. The vent is rated for continuous immersion at 2 meters for 60 minutes. The terminal’s other seals must be of equivalent standard for full device protection.
